Mezzanine Expansion

Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District
Location: Ft. Waiwright, Alaska
Status: Completed September 2005

Due to insufficient space, Ft. Wainwright’s Physical Fitness Center did not have enough exercise equipment available for use on a regular basis. An expansion was
approved in order to consolidate the current equipment, have enough room for new equipment, and better accommodate the increasing number of military personnel being stationed at the base.

NANA Pacific was selected to design and build a second level mezzanine inside the existing structure. The mezzanine matches existing building architecture and fits inside the jogging track. The project included an additional staircase, railings, concrete wall, air handling unit, jogging track exit, as well as mechanical, electrical and fire protection as needed to be fully functional according to applicable codes and regulations.

The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule, allowing the client to move in ahead of the approaching cold weather. It was laternomiated for and received received the USACE Celebrate Safety Award.
